Abagail

We went into London on Saturday to pick up Abagail.  Abby spent the day at the Market and Lee Valley Tools.  She completely disrupted the operation at Lee Valley while she was there.  Abby spent the night back in the Grove.  Jeff and Tanya picked her up on Sunday afternoon after a very enjoyable visit.

An end after 32 years

After 32 years working for the same company, I'm looking for work.  There just weren't any assignments open at the time my last assignment ended.  The last assignment provided some consulting experience in areas outside of the IT area.  I found the process control area very interesting and was able to bring a new aspect to my resume.
It's been a great 32 years, with lots of opportunities to learn and advance.  Leaving work on Friday was surreal.

I hate Internat Explorer

While working on the forum on acbsbw.com, I found that Internet Explorer was not applying my main css style sheet.
Some pages would display properly and some would not.
I tracked the problem down to a limitation in IE.  It seems that IE will only load a maximum of 30 style sheets and will just ignore the rest.  My style sheet was the 31st.

Abby's Sleep Over

Abby spent the weekend with us.

Drupal Simplenews

The creation of the email based news letter for the Bluewater Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society is almost complete.  This turned into a terrific learning opportunity.

Drupal Website Backup

The need to backup and restore Drupal websites was my focus over the past couple of days.
A proper site backup must target the MySQL database, the /sites/default directory and the /sites/all/themes directory.

Fun with Zen

I'm making progress with a Drupal Zen sub-theme for the ACBS Bluewater Chapter development site.  The Zen theming systems seems to be easy to use and customize.  The theming is far enough along to begin working on the newsletter, photo gallery and forum components of the site.  Biggest problem so far is that 'the transparency of white background behind the site name doesn't work in IE.  Seems that yet again IE is not standa

Migrating from Mambo to Drupal

It is time to migrate the ACBS - Bluewater Chapter website to Drupal.  The new site will integrate the existing Mambo, SMF and Gallery elements to Drupal modules and will also implement on-line newsletter functionality.

Some of the key modules being used will be:

  • CCK
  • Filefield
  • Imagefield
  • Imagecache
  • Galleria
  • jCarousel
  • Lightbox
  • Views
  • Zen Theme
  • Simplenews
  • Forum

New snow tires

I have broken down and finally accepted that winter is here.  For the first time, I've opted to buy snow tires for the car.  In the past I've always used all season radials.  But, since the tires on the car were bald and unsafe for winter driving, I went with 4 new B.F.

Winter is here

Winter came here last week.  Snow storms and blowing snow were the rule.  The stretch of HWY 402 between the Forest exit and HWY 401 were closed numerous times earlier in the week.  We drove to London last weekend, to go to the market and Lee Valley tools.   The trip was very slow due to low visibility, but the road conditions were not too bad.
