Blizzard of 2010

The Highway 402 corridor from Sarnia to London was hit with a severe winter storm that shut down the highway and stranded 300 people on the hiway.  High winds and blowing snow created whiteout conditions and massive snow drifts.  The storm that started on Decembers 12 is still causing disruptions in the area.

Sections of the 402 remain closed as snow removal efforts continue.  Lambton County declared an emergency on Tuesday morning and have asked the military to assist with rescue operations.  The military provided helicopters, planes and all terrain vehicles to reach areas that were snowed in.

The Sarnia area is still experiencing shortage of gas and food as all routes into the city have been closed due to the storm.  Most gas stations today were either closed or were displaying signs that they were out of regular gasoline.  Store shelved were looking very bare.  Mail delivery has been cancelled in Sarnia since no mail is comming in from the storing stations.  Mail delivery is expected to resume on Thursday.
